Artist's Comments

A picture presented from an out of time perspective - The viewer is looking at a past event, a deer drinking from a pond - Only the deer is seen in his present, skeletal form.

The deer skeleton was modeled in Zbrush 3.1 [link] , and the scene made in 3ds Max 2008, with some minor editing in Photoshop CS 3.

Thanks mate, I really like reading your comments, really nice how you both complimented the picture in regards to the parts that you like and gave me feedback concerning the parts that you don't, in order for me to know how to improve.

Like I told you, I really like it - but you didn't take the advice about the thing I told you.
The atmosphere is too clear, when you go to a forest, its full of flies and tiny bugs and dust mites floating around, and they're everywhere, saturating the sunlight and making the scene alive. Your forest misses it, which makes it a bit lifeless.
Also, there seems to be light coming from one direction at the mid-top, and from a completely different direction at the mid-right. It makes it looks like there are two suns or something.
The reflections on the water also need to be worked on.
But I do love the textures, the bark looks wonderful, and the entire foliage is very real. I actually liked the 'dark' spot in the top-left, its very typical of forests to have small obscure areas that are dark and foreboding (that's where snakes thrive!).
The skeleton is well done, too, but like I told you, its position seems less deer-like and more crouching-tiger-like.

And despite all that - I still think this is one of your best jobs :)
